Lost and Found

Losing your pet is stressful for the owner as well as the animal.  Please contact Dallas Animal Services (DAS) at 214-671-0315 to search for your pet.

Lost and Found dog DAS recommends that you visit the facility and walk through the kennels to ensure your pet is not at the shelter. If we find your pet and it is licensed or microchipped; we will attempt to contact you. It is important that your correct phone number is on file.

Redemption of Impounded Animals

Lost and Found Policy

Animals can enter the facility as owner surrenders, turned over as stray or lost or picked up while roaming the streets.  Owners may visit the facility and be escorted to the kennels to see if their pet was impounded.

If the owner of an impounded animal can be identified, the animal services officer shall immediately upon impoundment, notify the owner at the address stated on the records.

The redemption period for an animal impounded at DAS other than for a quarantine or pursuant to a court order is three (3) days after the date of impoundment.  Animals being held in protective custody that are wearing a legible tag or have a microchip implant identifying the owner will be held for ten (10) days.

If any animal is determined by a licensed veterinarian to be suffering from disease or injury that places the animal in pain or beyond reasonable medical help, the animal may be euthanized immediately. Every effort will be made to contact the owner of the animal if the animal is wearing a current registration tag.

Additional Information

No dog or cat shall be released from DAS without the owner presenting proof that the dog or cat has had a rabies vaccination within the past twelve (12) months.

An owner of any dog or cat who cannot provide proof of said rabies vaccination shall be subject to a fee of ten dollars ($10) for rabies vaccination for each dog or cat. An owner of an impoundment animal commits an offense if he removes or attempts to remove the animal from DAS without first paying all applicable fees required.
